Texas NAACP has been involved in the Texas Redistricting Lawsuit

Even though it has not been covered much by the media, The Texas NAACP has been actively involved in the ongoing redistricting lawsuit.  The interest of African Americans and other minorities were very well represented by lead counsel Allison Riggs of the Southern Coalition for Social Justice, Co-counsel Robert Notzon, Texas NAACP Legal Redress chair.  Texas NAACP president Gary Bledsoe was representing Congressman Al Green, Congresswomen Shelia Jackson Lee and Eddie Bernice Johnson, as well as 3 NAACP members, Howard Jefferson, NAACP National Board member and resident of Houston, Bob Lydia NAACP National Board member and Dallas Resident, and Dr. Juanita Wallace, Dallas Branch President.  Our concerns with the proposed Congressional & State House maps are that with the African American and minority population increase was not reflected by the newly drawn districts.

To see a copy of the maps we presented and other parties presented to the San Antonio District court you can go to Legislative Council’s website at: http://gis1.tlc.state.tx.us/
